Piracy has been negatively affecting the Arabic TV industry in America for many years now. Piracy is defined as illegally obtaining, facilitating, and distributing content (in this case Arabic TV channels) without having the proper copyrights and authority to do so. This is a serious issue because since the provider does not pay any fees to obtain the proper licences and copyrights to distribute and broadcast these channels, they are able to offer the channels to consumers at a much lower price and still profit. This is happening while other legitimate companies are going out and actually obtaining the proper licenses and copyrights to broadcast and distribute those same channels. These license deals often include guarantees of quality among other things to ensure both the channel and the provider maintain a positive reputation among consumers. When pirates are introduced into the market, almost instantly the reputation and quality of the channels go down which results in a less successful business for everyone involved except for the pirate. This even includes the content creators who also suffer and are not able to keep producing high quality content while not adequately getting compensated for their work.
